His Entrepreneurial Journey

Early 2000s
Mr. Yip noticed that many students were struggling to cope with the intensive pace set by the schools. He also realized that many working adults were stressed in their jobs or became demoralized by the Asian crisis.

He was driven to share his personal story and values such as perseverance and self-belief with them. He firmly believes that anyone can achieve success, as long as they do not allow a negative mindset and an attitude of self-defeat to override their potential. Hence, he decided to set up Mind Edge with the vision to enable individuals to unlock their latent capabilities and achieve peak performance throughout their lives.

2003
Being a high flier with a large MNC, Mr Yip was used to a stable income, high pay and benefits as well as strong support teams. However, he decided to give up all these to start Mind Edge from the scratch because he was convinced of his vision that Mind Edge can empower individuals to achieve peak performance in life.

It was a very difficult decision to make and took a lot of soul-searching - he would lose the safety net offered by his MNC job which was a huge risk given that most of his financial wealth had been wiped out in the Asian economic crisis and his wife was also pregnant at that time.

2004
A notable success came barely 1 year after Mind Edge started. Mr. Yip coached one of his trainers (using Mind Edge’s proprietary memory and learning techniques) and the latter went on to win the 2004 World Memory Championship, becoming the first Grandmaster Norm of Memory in Singapore (subsequently registered in the Singapore Book of Records).

2005

Mr. Yip’s mother had demonstrated incredible patience and faith in him when he failed his subjects in primary school and having gone through that experience, he firmly believed in the lasting and inspirational impact that parents’ love and faith can have on their children’s lives. Hence, in his weekly talks on FM 93.8 LIVE, he focused on drawing out the best out of individuals and to develop achieving and happy families, with his goal being to build a nation of FUNtastic® Parents and FUNtastic® Achievers based on a core set of FUNtastic® Values.

Beyond Academic Excellence™

He strongly believed that it is more important to teach skills that enable individuals to achieve fulfillment and performance at any stage in life, than to simply teach temporary skills to score As. In short, it is about going Beyond Academic Excellence™.

In addition, he also realized that it is important for the parents to provide a conducive, positive home environment for their children to grow and develop. It is not just about teaching the child, but also about coaching the parents – and this was part of the Company’s pioneering initiatives to change customers’ mindset regarding parenting and child performance.
